Caravan Log 2-4

Mr. R assinged us to write another caravan log and write about the topic that we thought was the most intresting.

The thing I learned in class was that the decimal system was revised by the arabs. I thought this was intresting because I never knew this and I thaught the decimal system was created later in time. I also thought that they had nothing to do with the decimal system bcause it was called the Dewey Decimal System and I thought the system was made in America. You can find more information on the Dewey Decimal System here. This is an example where the system is useddewey.jpgFound here.

This Week in Class

This week in L.A class we talked about a lot. On Sunday we talked about our blogs. We talked about new things that we should explore. Some of things we talked about were adding pictures and adding videos. We also talked about Wrinkle in Time a little. On Tuesday we talked about Wrinkle in Time. He gave us the whole class to read and to do or homework sheet. The sheet was asking us to fill in the blank with the correct theme. On Thursday  we asked any questions we had on  our blogs  and than we watched  a movie about Islam our next  unit in S.S. This is what we did in L.A this week.

Caravan Log 3-2

I learned a new phrase in class today. The phrase was “One hand can’t clap.” I learned that this phrase means that to do a good job on something or to do something quicker or better you need to have a team to do it with. This basically means that one self can’t do everything by themselves.

Theme for Wrinkle in Time and Impressions

In class today Mr. R asked us what theme best represents our book. He also asked us what our overall impressions were of Wrinkle in Time.

The theme that I think best represents our book is family loyalty. I say this because she has to trust her brother on lots of things such as trusting him with the man with the red eyes. She also has to trust the three witches. These three women aren’t her family but she has to trust them on every page. She also has to trust her mom that she is loved and that she will find her father. She also has to trust her father when he says that she has to go back and save her brother from the IT. I think if her family wasn’t loyal she would make lots of bad mistakes and she would of never found her father.

My overall impressions on the book are the book is ok but some parts are really hard to comprehend. I think that using the tesseract thing for time travel. Getting my head around it is hard to understand. The part I understand is that they’re traveling from planet to planet. I think the book is cool because they’re on a mystery and everything. Another part I don’t like is that they end the book half way through and it kind of makes the ending boring.

Caravan Sheet 2-26

Today Mr. R assigned us another caravan sheet but said that we didn’t have to write what was on our sheet but pick one thing that we found the most intresting and to write about it.

The thing in class that I found so amazing was that the top of the prayer rug has to point towards Mecca. I figured out that this is because if your not praying towards Mecca your not worshipping or religion. To learn more go here. I also learned four other things and they were;

  • You have to use a prayer rug every pray time inless you don’t have one.
  • Personal prayer rugs are used outside of a mosque because mosque have them.
  • The rugs are sometimes geometrical and floral but can sometimes be solid colors.
  • To make sure that the rugs are always clean Islamic people have to put their rugs away so they can stay clean.

Caravan Sheet 2-24

In class Mr. R assigned us another caravan sheet or reflection sheet on the game were playing.

The five things I learned were;

  1. In Islam it’s forbidden to eat pork.
  2. Gin can be good or evil
  3. Prophe received relavation at age 42
  4. Sofiasim is a branch of Islam
  5. Sofiasim is similar to Buddhism

What I Learned in Class? 2-20

Mr. R assigned our L.A class an assignment that we will have to do for a good portion of the year. He said “you will have to write a post every night after every L.A class. He gave us 4 questions. The question I choose was what learned today in school. I will givea breif description of my day at school.

I had 4 classes today. First I had science. I had a test todayabout bacteria and viruses. The test was pretty easy and I think I did pretty good. The next class I had was P.E. In P.E I had swimming and we did two activities. The two activities were snorkling and water polo. The next classwas Global Issues. I gave a powerpoint presentation. The powerpoint was over Clean Energy. My last class was L.A and we did alot of work. We talked about Wrinkle in Time, than a Wrinkle in Time worksheet, than Blogging and finnaly read.

Caravan Sheet 2-19

Today in class Mr.R told us how to play the game. We were told the rules and given a sheet where we are supposed to write 5 things we learned in class.

I learned in class that there are 1.4 million christian arabs. Mostly in Egypt and Lebanon. I aslo learned two defintions. Arb mean lacking moisture and that Islam means submission to god. The arabs also tougt other people astronomy. I also learned that mecca was a huge trading center for everyone in the world and natuarly was.

Responding A wrinkle in time chapters 1-4

Today in L.A. Mr.R assigned a paper that we had to answer on Wrinkle in Time. We had to answer seven questions on chapters 1-4.

  • What thoughts do you have about Meg’s personality as you read these chapters?

- My thoughts on Meg’s personality are she is a misfit who as very little friends. Meg has some difficulties at school like her grades are bad, she has no friends and she has no where to go. She knows that shes a misfit and it gets to her but she has-her family. At home she is safe and is always loved from her mom. She doesn’t really appreciate that shes loved that much. She also has her brother Charles Wallace because he is like her in some ways. Overall Meg has many problems but is loved and cared by her family.

  • Why is Meg Murry unhappy at school?

- Meg is unhappy at school because the two most important things are going the wrong way. First, she has no friends at all. This leads her to being unhappy at school and doesn’t give her a good reputation. Next she has bad grades. The grades become this way because she is so miserable with school and that doesn’t help her in doing good. Since she is so miserable there it leads to problems like fighting.

  • How and why does Calvin fit in with the Murry family

- Calvin fits in perfectly with the Murry family because he gives everyone in there family something to appreciate. First he gives Meg a friend that has the same problem has her he’s a misfit. He also gives her something more than just a friend he becomes here boyfriend which helps Meg more because she has a friend, someone who loves her and someone that she can talk to. He gives Charles Wallace friendship. This one isn’t has big but Calvin is there for Charles Wallace. He gives Mrs. Murry a great feeling. He gives Meg all that love which in a roundabout way helps Mrs. Murry because she doesn’t have to worry about Meg anymore.

  • Where and why do Calvin, Charles Wallace, and Meg go with Mrs.Whatsit, Mrs.  Mrs. Which.

- Charles Wallace and Meg are missing there father. There father was teleported to another planet and kidnaped by the IT. Meg and Charles Wallace see Mrs. Whatsit at the very beginning of the book. Charles Wallace also knows Mrs. Whatsit. The three kids and witches go to many planets. They spend lots of time on a planet or very little. Their main goal is to find Mr. Murry and bring him home safe but of course they have lots of problems along the way.

  • In your opinion, why do the three children accept the three Mrs. W’s rather than fear them.

- The kids accept the three Mrs W’s because the Mrs W’s are nice and they all have the same idea. They all want to save Mr. Murry but the Mrs W’s also have another idea to fight off the black thing.

  • In what ways does Meg seem like any other young person? In what ways are her feelings similar to yours?

- Meg seems like any other young person because we all have that stage in our lives when we think everything is against us. We all have that stage when nothing seems to go right like when you have no friends, your a misfit, you have bad grades or when you feel like no one loves you. Her feelings are similar to mine because if my father one day disapeared I would do anything to find him even if he was on a different planet.

  • Imagine that you are a guidance counselor at Meg’s school. You believe Meg can do better classwork. Write a letter to Mrs. Murry about Meg, explaining the problem as you see it and suggesting possible solutions.

- Dear Mrs. Murry,

Your daughters recent performance in school has been below par. I believe that your daughter could do better classwork if she had more confidence in herself. I’ve noticed she is some what of a misfit. If Meg could find some more friends she would have more confidence in herself and she would perform better. Meg has been slacking off during class and day dreaming. This could be fixed by getting her to studym more so she would be more intrestred in whatwe are studing. I would also suggest Meg to come to my office everyother day because she has been having some emotional problems. I believe this has to do something with the disaperance of her father

                                             Thank You

What questions do you have about this unit?

Some of the questions I have on this unit are;

Will the whole unit be the group activity or will we be doing other things like; reading out of the book, or answering questions? Is Islam a very complex religion or is Islam a very easy religion to learn? Is Islam a religion that keeps growing by huge numbers or does Islam grow a vast number of people over hundreds of years? Do you think Islam will be a stronger and more complex religion two-hundred years in the future or will Islam become a smaller and less stronger religion? Do you think Islam was a more complex religion five-hundred years ago or will it be more complex five-hundred years in the future?

What questions do you have?

Some of the questions I have are; How long are suras or chapters? Do all muslims say the exordium every time they eat, drink, begin a journey, or enter a building? Are they Very strict with this? Why did bedouins chose to leave the desert and become city people? Did Prophet Muhammad put no drinking and gambling in the Qur’an because he knew that it was a bad thing and would lead to unhappiness? How long will it take for Islam to surpass Christianity? Will it ever? How does India where Buddhism was founded have the second most amount of muslims? How do three huge religions have similarities?
